alt_aliceI shall try very hard to write this without bursting into tears again, because it’s all so very wonderful, but I just had no idea whatever what you all were planning, and it’s just so sweet of all of you and I hardly know what to say! Kingsley brought us out here after breakfast in blindfolds to surprise us, and oh my goodness, it is just the prettiest little cottage that Danny and Victor have been fixing up, and when the Players got here yesterday, they slipped away after lunch, and it was because they were sneaking off to finish everything up. It’s got the most beautiful view of the ocean, and there’s a fire pit out back, and darling little curtains in the windows, and there are flowers everywhere (courtesy of Stephen and Laura), and just think! We get to spent two whole days here, just me and my Frank, without any laundry or chickens or gardening or nappies, and it’s just absolute heaven. Kingsley said everyone thought we could use a bit of a break, and it’s wonderful enough we get to see Neville and Evelyn on Monday, but I never in a million years would have expected this as well!
We get our own private bath for two whole days! Imagine! I’ve told Frank to draw up a nice hot bath while I write and I can smell those wonderful bath-salts, and it’s all quite going to my head.
It’s almost too much to take in all at once. I can’t even begin to thank all of you, and how wonderful to get your notes and cards, I think if I start reading them again, I’ll just start crying all over again, you’ve all written such lovely things. And the gifts! Strawberries, Molly and Arthur! Champagne, Bill? That enormous hamper, Tonks and Remus, how incredibly generous, and that sweet little music box too! And those bath salts and candles, Poppy and Pomona, they’re just so lovely. As is the tartan coverlet on the bed, Minerva. And Sirius! Wherever did you find a Van Morrison album? As soon as Frank saw it was Moondance, he put it on and popped the bubbly, and I haven’t seen him looking this happy in an age and a half. And he’s being rather insistent that I put down the quill but thank you thank you thank you and Frank would say thank you too if he wasn’t nibbling on my ear right now and oooh that tickles hang on just a second
